In the Indian scenario, according to Jaipal, research & development (R&D) is a very difficult task. “We would not mind paying for partnership with those companies, which give us complete design and manufacturing with their name attached,” he says. For technical partnerships, Unipack is looking of countries like China, Italy and the UK.

Unipack have full fledged in-house facility in design and manufacturing of precision components required for developing prototype machines, conducting rigorous trials before freezing the final design of machine. Equipments are validated before it is being finalised to sale in the market.

There is continous process for improvement and upgradation in existing equipment to meet the specific need of our esteemed customers.

Unipack has an integrated manufacturing facility at Vasai with a total work area of 8,000 sq.ft. Almost all the processes in manufacturing happen in this facility, right from, raw materials to finished products. According to Jaipal Shah, Unipack’s managing director, “We have an in-house facility apart from a complete machine shop, welding shop, painting shop, grinding shop, and buffing shop. Unipack follows all the qualification norms; IQ, OQ, DQ, PQ and FAT, right up to installation and commissioning of the site. Further. we provide complete documentation, manuals, drawings etc”

The shop floor comprises machines such as lathes, milling machines, shaping machines, grinding machines, drilling machines, welding machines, etc. According to Jaipal, all machines are of utmost quality, which were acquired from Indian companies such as HMT and Kirloskar. “We undertake job work for precision components manufactured on CNC machines.All the critical components, where accuracy is important are outsourced on contract basis,” he explains. Unipack manufactures a wide range of packaging and other machines that are used in pharma and food & beverage manufacturing.

“We now manufacture machines like linear vial washing machines, linear bottle washing machines , monoblock vial filling and stoppering machines, monoblock powder filling, vial cap sealing machines and stoppering machines and conveyors “Jaipal claims that unipack is now the leading supplier in India for the SS plate and frame type filter press with almost 90 per cent market shares.

“More than 300 plants are running in India with our SS filter press. 100 in Pepsi, 100 in Coco Cola and 100 in others “says Jaipal. According to him, in the past 18 years, the company has sold filter presses worth Rs. 25 crore. Talking on the export front; Jaipal says till March 2008, Unipack used to export products through Pharmalab.”In future, we will also export through Unipack, and in three years, we will export 100 per cent on our own. We have big expansion plans and are seeking joint ventures for all our product ranges, “ he explains.
